A Very Murray Christmas: Your guide to 2017 Holiday TV specials

Every year, there are new holiday-themed offerings hoping to join the ranks of hallowed Christmas specials and movies that include "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," and "Miracle on 34th Street." Here are some of this year's comers, plus a cheat sheet for when the classics will be airing.

Nov. 24: Get an early start on your Thanksgiving holiday with "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," because we're always grateful for Charlie Brown's hope for a better world, or at least one in which he will actually kick that football. ABC, 8 p.m.

Nov. 26: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will feature four new balloons, including Red from Angry Birds (coming to theaters everywhere summer 2017) and Scrat from "Ice Age." NBC, 9 a.m. to noon.

Nov. 28: The Property Brothers will compete against each other to build the best life-size gingerbread houses in 72 hours with the help of Ron Ben-Israel of "Cake Wars" and Duff Goldman of "Ace of Cakes" using assorted candies and 20,000 gingerbread bricks in "All-Star Gingerbread Build." HGTV and Food Network, 8 p.m.

Nov. 30: Kristen Bell is hosting a musical special "It's Your 50th Christmas, Charlie Brown," to celebrate the golden anniversary of the beloved holiday special and the iconic music of Vince Guaraldi. Kristin Chenoweth, Matthew Morrison, Sarah McLachlan, Boyz II Men and Pentatonix will perform. ABC, 8 p.m.

Nov. 30: The four-week "The Great Holiday Baking Show," modeled after a British hit and hosted by Nia Vardalos of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and husband Ian Gomez ("Cougar Town"), pits amateur bakers in holiday-themed competitions to be crowned Holiday Baking Champion. ABC, 10 p.m

Dec. 1: AMC's "Home for the Holidays" movie marathon begins, with holiday films every weekday through Christmas, including "Scrooged," "White Christmas" and that classic paean to the power of belief (and the marketing arm of Macy's), "Miracle on 34th Street." Check amctv.com for the full schedule.

Dec. 1: The Rankin-Bass stop-motion classic "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" is a can't-miss of the holiday season. CBS, 8 p.m.

Dec. 2: Another can't-miss: "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." NBC, 9 p.m.

Dec. 3: NBC's third annual live holiday musical extravaganza is "The Wiz!," starring newcomer and New Jersey native Shanice Wiliams as Dorothy and a cast that includes Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Common and Ne-Yo. NBC, 8 p.m.

Dec. 3: Jennifer Nettles once again hosts "CMA Country Christmas," a musical special taped at the Grand Ole Opry and featuring Martina McBride, Jewel, Darius Rucker, LeAnn Rimes and more. ABC, 9 p.m.

Dec. 4: Netflix's original holiday special "A Very Murray Christmas" features Bill Murray and a host of famous pals including George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Chris Rock, Miley Cyrus and Michael Cera puttin' on a show!

Dec. 7: "The Great Christmas Light Fight" is back for a third season of eye-popping extreme Christmas decorating. It culminates Dec. 21. ABC, 8 p.m.

Dec. 9: "Super Chanukah" is Beverly's answer to her family's lackluster holiday cheer, but it's suspiciously similar to Christmas on this holiday-themed episode of the '80-set sitcom "The Goldbergs." ABC, 8:30 p.m.

Dec. 10: Michael Buble returns for a fifth Christmas sing-a-long this time featuring Celine Dion, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and Tori Kelly. Jay Leno, Eva Longoria and Blake Shelton are among the guests joinng Buble for comedy bits. NBC, 8 p.m.

Dec. 12: "Family Ties" stars Meredith Baxter and Michael Gross reunite as a married couple whose daughter (Laura Bell Bundy) brings home her boyfriend for Christmas only to reveal that her folks are actually Mr. and Mrs. Claus in "Becoming Santa." Lifetime, 8 p.m.

Dec. 17: The 2015 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour lineup features One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer, Demi Lovato, Calvin Harris, Nick Jonas, The Weeknd and Fall Out Boy; catch them all during the 90-minute concert special. The CW, 8 p.m.

Dec. 19: Mariah Carey not only co-stars in but also directs "A Christmas Melody," about a single mom (Lacey Chabert) who returns to her Ohio hometown, where her former high school rival (Carey) is now the conniving head of the PTA. Music is promised. Hallmark Channel, 8 p.m.

Dec. 21: The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra and ... the Muppets? Ooookay. This concert special, featuring classic carols, "Sesame Street" medleys and sacred Christmas music, also features Santino Fontana of the CW's excellent "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend." PBS, 9 p.m.

Dec. 21: "Rudolph" may be sweeter, but "The Year Without a Santa Claus" is the most flat-out entertaining Rankin-Bass Christmas special, mostly due to the classic song-and-dance routine by Heat Miser. It never gets old. Disney Channel, 8 p.m.
Dec. 24: A very oldie but a very goodie  Christmas Eve Mass from St. Peter's Basilica with Pope Francis. NBC, 11:30 p.m.

Dec. 25: Time traveler River Song (Alex Kingston) returns to the "Doctor Who" universe for a new Christmas special in which she meets the Time Lord's latest incarnation (Peter Capaldi) for the first time. BBC America, 9 p.m.

Jan. 1: A late Christmas gift to Cumberbabes everywhere, the holiday special "Sherlock: The Abominable Bride" takes Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson (Martin Freeman) back to 1890s London for an all-new mystery. PBS, 9 p.m.
